4 Tips on How to Minimize Oak Allergies
Feb 01, 2022

February officially marks the start of that yellow-green pollen we know so well in South Texas: Oak.

With over 600 species of Oak, these trees produce a large amount of pollen that coats our cars, sidewalks, and more in a thin dust of allergens. Unfortunately, their tiny pollen grain structure make them easy to inhale and cause allergy symptoms. Thankfully this is not our first go around!

Here are a few tips to help minimize the affects of this pesky pollen.

Avoid Peak Pollen Times

Pollen count for Oak is typically highest in the morning until noon. If possible, try to stay indoors until after peak hours to minimize the amount of oak pollen you are exposed to.

Take Extra Care When Washing

If you do find yourself outdoors on any given day, be sure to change your clothes when you get home, and take extra care when washing your face, hair, and clothes to remove any pollen particles that may have attached to you outside.

Be Preventative

Even if you don't feel any symptoms yet, allergies can be unpredictable, so it's always a good idea to take preventative medications before the allergy season is in full effect. There are over the counter solutions such as nasal sprays, or you can contact any of our STAAMP locations to get a recommendation.

Pick Up an At Home Sublingual Immunotherapy Kit

Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT) is an at home treatment we offer at STAAMP that treats allergies by giving small doses of what you're allergic to, which then starts to develop your immunity toward the allergen to reduce your symptoms. Contact us today to learn more.
